Listen to this post!
Very few of those selling their home wants to spend a penny more than they have to on getting it show worthy. But in most cases spend they must, if they want a quicker sale. That does not mean however that there is anything wrong with saving and being thrifty when you can, as long as you use common sense and a little imagination. Here is just one idea. There will be more to come soon:
The humble tension rod – the simple ones you can pick up for just a dollar or two at the average home store – and even sometimes at the 99¢ store – are great for hanging drapes and shower curtains but other than that they are not the most exciting things in the world. Or are they? You’d actually be surprised by just how useful these simple springy rods can be around the house. Here are just some of the ways that you can put tension rods to alternate, rather clever, home decor and staging uses and this, to be honest, is just the tip of the iceberg..
Banish Bookshelf Clutter
Even if you, like many of us, have long since taken to reading books on a Kindle or a smart phone rather than actual paper many of us still have a bookshelf or two in our home and they can quickly become a cluttered mess. By making use of a couple of shorter tension rods and some hemmed scarps of fabric you can disguise all of the mess, adding a little extra style to the space and as a bonus you won’t have to find a new ‘home’ for all of that ‘stuff.’
Conceal a Litterbox and Give Kitty Some Privacy Too
One of the downsides of having a cat is the litterbox issue, especially when showing your home for sale. Even if you are meticulous about keeping it clean it’s not a pretty sight. Using a tension rod and a plain curtain you can solve the problem though. Place the litterbox in a cupboard, remove the door and then hang the curtain in front. Not only will it look better your cat will probably be rather glad of the extra privacy you afford her too and buyers won’t see a thing.
Banish Jumbled Jewelry
How many times have you taken a pendant or necklace out of your jewelry box only to find it’s ended up all tangled up with three others? Or lost track of where half of your beads and baubles are in the first place? You can solve a jumbled jewelry problem though; simply by hanging a tension rod above your dresser or a bedroom shelf and then suspending all of your shiny things from it. It’s a great way to add a little visual interest to spark a potential homebuyer’s imagination too.
Organize Your Pots and Pans
Ever wanted one of those fancy looking hanging racks for pots and pans, the kind that all the TV chefs have in their fake kitchens? Well wish no more. Simply attach a few tension rods to the kitchen wall and there you have it; a great looking way to organize all your cooking utensils that will probably leave you with change from a $10 bill.
Clever Closet Organizers
Why spend a small fortune on those ‘closet storage systems’ that are advertised on TV when a couple of adjustable tension rods can do the job just as well for far less?
Solve a Shoe Problem
Having lots of shoes is, on the whole, a pretty wonderful thing. Storing them, not so much. However, by reclaiming an odd nook or cranny in your home and adding a tension rod or two (or more) you can create a shoe closet that is organized, attractive and even adjustable.
Design a Better Dishwashing Space
If you have limited room around the kitchen sink, the last thing you really need is a clutter of dish washing tools littering up what little space you do have. By hanging a tension rod just above the sink and then suspending all of those tools from it you can create a dish washing station that is efficient, easy to use and even rather cool looking and will, to a certain extent, help fool a home buyer’s eye too.
Banish Under Counter Cupboard Clutter
Speaking of a lack of space the average under the sink counter – especially in the kitchen – tends to be a little more cramped than our storage needs dictate. You can help solve the problem by hanging all of those assorted cleaning sprays from a tension rod, freeing up tons of room underneath for the rest of your ‘stuff’ and it will look rather impressive when opened during a viewing walk through too.
See? It’s amazing what you can do with a springy rod and a little bit of imagination. The next time you are in the dollar store why not pick up a bunch of them and then see where inspiration takes you?
