Angelica’s Area Spotlight – Stanley Park, Kitchener

Is your idea of the perfect neighbourhood one with tree-lined streets, a quiet vibe and a stunning park and nature preserve located practically in your own backyard? If so, then the Stanley Park neighbourhood in Kitchener may just be the right fit for you.

In terms of actual location, Stanley Park is bordered by the Conestoga Parkway to the west, Old Chicopee Drive to the east, Ottawa Street North to the north and Weber Street East to the south.The homes in the area are a charming and rather unique mix of post-war charmers with mature trees and large gardens and more modern homes that are clustered around the parks. The one thing they all have in common is that they fit the forested, nature filled nature of the area perfectly.

Life can be quiet in Stanley Park, but it does not have to be. The area is dominated by Idlewood Park, which in addition to offering acres and acres of forests and wetlands to explore also boasts a public pool and designated cycling and hiking trails for those more energetically minded. The lively Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort is close by too.

The Stanley Park Community Centre is also a great neighbourhood resource. Its offers classes for all ages, organised activities for kids, sporting events, a full public gym and lots of opportunities to really get involved in the community.

In terms of schools, something that is always going to be of great importance to families looking for a new place to call home, the area is served by the Mackenzie King Public School for younger children, the Grand River Collegiate Institute High School for older students as well as the Canadian Martyrs Catholic School. All three schools have an excellent reputation for academics while also offering a very diverse, welcoming environment for students.

Want to shop? No problem. In addition to the smaller, but very convenient, Stanley Park Mall the excellent proximity to major highways – the neighbourhood is close to Conestoga Parkway- and abundance of public transport in the area (there are four different bus routes) all of the fantastic shopping that Kitchener has to offer is within easy reach.
