Whatever your preference – the marvelous musicals of Broadway, the sophistication of opera, a stirring orchestral performance or an evening of comedy – you don’t have to travel to Toronto to enjoy an evening of terrific theatre, there is lots on offer right here in the Waterloo region. Here’s a look at just some of the venues that offer almost endless entertainment all year long for your enjoyment, no matter what your tastes.
Centre in the Square
101 Queen St N., Kitchener
Centre In The Square is the region’s largest and busiest performing arts centre and has played host to acts, concerts and performances of both national and international importance for over three decades now. Almost 20,000 patrons visit this state of the art facility annually, to enjoy performances that range from concerts staged by world renowned orchestras and dance companies to mega musicals and even lively local productions.
Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts
36 King St. W., Kitchener
This gorgeous space is the official home of the much lauded KW Symphony, but don’t be fooled into thinking that every performance is too serious of traditional. The Kinderconcerts, for example, that are performed on a regular basis by the KWS String Quartet are a wonderful, fun way to introduce kids to the magic of orchestral music and the Pops concerts are rousing affairs that everyone can enjoy.
Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre
9 Princess St. E., Waterloo
The Little Theatre is the Waterloo region’s oldest community theatre and boasts a long tradition for offering all kinds of great entertainment. Having been in operation since 1935 unfortunately much of the building was lost to a fire in 2009, but the great community spirit that exists in the KW Region has seen it rebuilt and restored and once again serving as the heart of local theatre and the spiritual home of many amazing local talents.
St Jacobs Theatres Inc.
1386 King St., St. Jacobs
A group project consisting of several different theatres – The Church Theatre, St. Jacobs Country Playhouse, Drayton Festival Theatre and the Schoolhouse Theatre – offers a wide range of performance offerings year round, with everything from locally staged musicals, originals plays and and British comedy on offer.
